Grind Athletics: Teaching Life’s Lessons Through Sports

As the founder of Grind Athletics, Tyler Hollist is working to promote athletes’ skills and help them define their character traits to recruiters. His unique blend of experience in business strategy and athletic training has been crucial in shaping the company’s mission to help athletes reach their full potential by enhancing their preparation and character development.

“Having grown up with a passion for sports, I understand firsthand the difficulty athletes face in showcasing their character, work ethic, and personal qualities — elements that are just as crucial as physical performance,” Hollist said.

To help him grow and scale his business, Hollist enrolled in the Master of Business Creation (MBC) program at the University of Utah’s David Eccles School of Business. In the program, he aims to further develop his entrepreneurial skills and gain the knowledge necessary to scale Grind Athletics.

Through data analysis, the Grind Athletics program tracks real-time performance data and measures both athletic ability and character. Trying to amplify areas recruiters have a hard time seeing in athletes such as dedication and work ethic. Grind Athletics is committed to creating lasting value for athletes, coaches, and recruiters through cutting-edge technology and data-driven solutions.

Grind Athletics measures areas of recruitment that are often missed. Tracking traits outside of performance on the field such as dedication, resilience, and work ethic gives athletes more credibility. Grind Athletics is a resource that is difficult for competitors to replicate.

Hollist has worked to refine his leadership and business strategies to improve Grind Athletics. One of his most notable accomplishments is securing a registered patent called the Athletic Training System for the unique methods Grind Athletics employs in its athlete development. He is working on a second patent for his character algorithm. The entrepreneur has goals of expanding his company to a franchise and reaching athletes across more than 1,400 locations. Within the company he seeks to build an executive team to be the backbone of a rapidly growing user base.

Hollist’s long-term vision of transforming how recruiters assess athletes, by integrating character-based insights with performance metrics, can illustrate Grind Athletics innovative approach to athlete development. This platform would not only enhance individual athlete development but also create a thriving ecosystem for coaches, recruiters, and players to interact, using data-driven insights to foster growth.

Hollist is making the most of his time in the MBC program.

“The program offers a unique blend of mentorship, resources, and academic rigor specifically designed for founders looking to accelerate their startups” Hollist said.

Additionally, the program offers resources such as funding opportunities, workshops, and hands-on support that are helping Hollist navigate the complexities of growing a data-driven sports franchise.
